29th July 2010: Apologies to all for the lack of activity over the last couple of months. Unfortunately times are hard and there is just not enough time to concentrate on free Joomla! extensions and have enough money left over to pay the bills! Rest assured that development will continue again mid to late August - we really want Geomla to become a great asset to the Joomla! CMS. Club priority support is still being given to those that need it and I am still just about managing to answer any other queries from non-club members too.

Things have not been helped by an appalling and totally ignorant review on the JED, which make us feel that it's not worth carrying on with this project. Do others feel this way? Please have your say at the forum, or better still, at the JED - http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/maps-a-weather/geotagging/7294
If you'd like us to carry on with this project then please post a good constructive review rather than an insulting one that is devoid of any facts!

Geomla 2.0 - The Geo Targeting System for Joomla

Welcome to Geomla 2.0 by Angel Coding!

Geomla allows you to localize your Joomla! 1.5 website to users from different continents, countries, regions, and cities.
This means that you will be able to show different content to visitors depending on their location in the world.

For those familiar with the original Geomla 1.x.x version, Geomla 2.0 is a massive upgrade and has been completely re-written from scratch to allow a far wider range of content changes and in a much easier way. There is also support for more geo location providers and targeting on a region/city level.

To bring Geomla to a much wider audience, the main core extension has gone non-commercial meaning that it is now free for anyone to download and use. It has also retained it's GPL license.

You may have also noticed that we now have this dedicated website for the Geomla project to help bring it to the next level, although please bear with us while the site is being built up.

An important note is that it will be up to you to choose the right Geo Location Provider for your circumstances, although we will give you as much help as possible in your choice.
Currently, there are commercial and free options from the two main providers in the industry - IP2Location and Maxmind - as well as our own country-wide database available in the Geomla club, with more choices to come soon.

By default, Geomla includes a free browser detection plugin, which will allow basic country detection based on the language of the visitors browser, although it is highly recommended to upgrade this to one of the other providers available.

Basic support will be provided in the forum, but for more dedicated support it will be necessary to join the Geomla Club, which will give faster ticketed support to members, along with the original country-wide database, extra Geomla plugins and other goodies.

Enjoy!
